Dutch Design Week 2024: together we explore how to create meaningful connections in ever-evolving Eindhoven

The exhibition ‘Circles of Universal Language’ is presented by the municipality of Eindhoven in collaboration with Dutch Invertuals during Dutch Design Week 2024. This exhibition showcases ten designers who demonstrate the power of universal language in creating meaningful encounters. Through bi-weekly meetings, conversations, observations, and research, each designer contributes their unique perspective and approach.

We speak with Edhv, Architects of Identity, about their ‘The Whistling Tree’ project. The design transforms whistling sounds into dynamic, amplified soundscapes that grow with the crowd, reflecting the pulse of Eindhoven.

“Our installation aims to bring people together, even if they are not in the same place or time.”

Edhv is a multidisciplinary strategy and design studio focused on creating meaningful identities. Renowned as Architects of Identity’, Edhv embraces experimental exploration, pushing beyond conventional boundaries in their quest for authenticity.

Can you elaborate on ‘The Whistling Tree’ and how it aims to create meaningful encounters in Eindhoven?

‘The Whistling Tree’ is a place where people can leave their whistles. When someone whistles near the tree, it will catch the sound and play it back with other whistles. It loosely refers to the enjoyable moment of birds whistling in a tree in the morning.

We wanted to make something that comes alive through a simple interaction with people passing by. People can leave their whistle sounds to become part of a shared soundscape for others to enjoy.

Our installation aims to bring people together, even if they are not in the same place nor time.
